Saturday, May 25, 1:30-3:30pm; Splash Ink with Watercolor, with Ming Franz. Ming will give an explanation and demonstration of the unique features of Splash Ink with Watercolor, and explain the materials, the mixing of Asian ink and primary watercolors, and random and controlled pouring. Ming will show you how to splash ink on Ma rice paper, how to dry and separate the sheets of paper, and then learn to listen to the color in the resulting abstract. She will explain finishing touches, and have a discussion of various ways to finish the painting with special effects, using materials such as salt, alcohol and more.
Saturday, June 8, 1:30-3:30pm; MINI HANDS-ON WORKSHOP. Zentangle and Mixed Media Journaling, with Suzanne McNeill. Get inspired by Zentangle designs! Suzanne will show some NEW tangles and the simple steps to drawing each one. See variations on how to add shading and color with paints, pens, markers and pencils. Tangles are the perfect addition to art journals, cards, paintings and as design accents. Artists can use tangles in polymer clay, copper etching, metal clay, clayboard, scratchboard, embossing and quilting. This demo will focus on using tangles in journaling, so bring your journal to experiment. Zentangle is a ‘must-have skill’ and is popular for creative inspiration. Saturday, June 15, 1:30-3:30pm; Journaling with Calligraphy, with Randall M. Hasson. This demo will serve to highlight the benefits of the Handmade large (11” X 16”) watercolor Journal. The goal of this session is to experiment with acrylic paints and mediums to achieve textural effects. In addition, Randall will demo pens, permanent markers, brushes and other tools to create calligraphy and calligraphic marks. Sumi inks, walnut and acrylic inks, acrylic paint and acrylic mediums, and will be used to achieve coloration and textural effects. For watercolorists, this journal has large enough pages to paint watercolor vignettes to create a travel-style journal.
Saturday, June 22, 1:30-3:30pm; Playing with Glass, Plexiglas, Faux Mirrors and Metal Leaf, with Darlene Olivia McElroy. Learn how to create an easy mirror and age it without the use of toxic strippers. Paint, etch, stencil and transfer on glass and even create stained glass with acrylic paint. See what different techniques can do when layered on both sides of plexiglas using acrylic paints, pours, matte gel and a surprise or two. Plus learn some new tricks with with metal leaf.

Keep your watercolor painting of any subject, including plein air, workable for hours in dry New Mexico. This demo is for artists of all painting watermedia persuasions. Lift, paint back in, you will discover that watercolor is a most flexible and forgiving medium full of possibilities. Jeanne will demonstrate by painting a New Mexico sky or a still life.
